Liquid-Solid-Gas CFD-DEM simulation of melting
This case shows a model of a melting pot, realized with CFDEM®coupling. Particles are heated up by particle-wall contact and convective heat transfer. If the particles reach the melting temperature they shrink and this volume is trasferred to the liquid phase. This results in a three phase system with solid particles, gas and liquid. For the particles DEM is used, gas and liquid is treated with VoF (Volume of Fluid) method. This model was created for IPIM (JKU, Austria) and will collaboratively be developped further.
